Published March 23, 2023

Your website is finally live!

You may be so excited for finally putting your page to a test. After all the emails and meetings, all you want to do is have a look at the final result…but no, it’s not showing up no matter how many times you try.

Well, we know the dilemma that’s why we created this guide for you to check that this did not just happen to you but can be everyone’s too!

This search engine’s algorithm is constantly changing, so it could take as little as 4 days for your website to show up on Google… or as long as 6 months.

Google may take time to discover new websites and has no inbound links, so to check if Google knows your website exists is to run a search for site:yourwebsite.com.

Here are other reasons why your website may not be showing on Google:

  1. Your website is too new

It’s totally normal that your page isn’t ranking if you’ve just launched your website. It can take several months for search algorithms to discover your website and gain authority. However, there are a few things you can do to speed up this process and make sure that your site gets discovered by Google algorithms.

Create a Google Search Console account and link it to your website.

Then, create a sitemap and submit it through Google Search Console: Sitemaps -> Enter sitemap URL -> Submit

Submit a sitemap. This tells Google exactly which pages you want crawled. Many website hosting services create and submit a sitemap for you, so you don’t need to; read your hosting service’s documentation to find out (search for the term “sitemap”).

  1. Your business doesn’t exist anywhere else

Marketing your business is one thing. But the only way you can get your message out is by having a presence on the Web and these pages will help you achieve that goal. When you create pages for your site, the pages are indexed by search engines like Google and Yahoo. This means anyone searching for something related to your business can easily find it. With this, you can take control of your presence in the digital world, without having to go through another hosting provider.

Create Google My Business account, This means you will also show up on Google Maps, which is always handy. You should register your website on other relevant directories too, though.

  1. You’re stopping search engines from indexing or crawling your pages

Site cloaking prevents search engines from indexing or crawling your site. This can be useful when developing a web application and forgetting to remove the code before publishing.

One of the most simple ways to stop Google from indexing or crawling your pages is through the use of robots.txt. This file can be used to contain instructions and rules to tell Google and other search engines what instructions they need to follow when crawling a site.

Remove “noindex” tags from any pages that shouldn’t have them. It’s something that a lot of web developers use to prevent Google from indexing a site during the development process and forgetting to remove it before publishing.

If Google has already crawled the pages in your sitemap, it’ll tell you about any “noindexed” ones in the “Coverage” report in Google Search Console.

  1. Your website isn’t optimized for search engine crawling

Search engine crawlers will visit your site and look at various aspects of the pages, such as meta content, keyword density and relevancy. They will also determine whether or not your website is an organic search result for visitors that are looking for specific keywords you used in your title or description.

Once fully crawled, the results are compiled into data that shows how well your site ranks in search results. If you are not optimizing your website for search engines, it will likely not do well in searches and ranking.

  1. Your keyword market is very competitive

Search engines help millions of worldwide users navigate the internet and find specific content amid the billions of websites. While competition can be fierce, many companies are willing to pay top dollar for a good keyword market. So, you must make sure that you target a less competitive keyword market so that your business stands out from other companies in the same market niche.

It is a proven fact that most people finding you through search engines go straight to the last page if it doesn’t provide what they are looking for. Therefore, there are several significant benefits of targeting less competitive keywords.

Why Ranking Your Site Is Important

  • 1. Google knows that this website exists in the first place, and it can easily find and access all of its pages
  • 2. This website contains a page that is a relevant match for a specific keyword
  • 3. It has proved to Google that that specific page deserves to rank for that keyword as it is one of the very best on that subject

Most people don’t click past the first page of search results. According to this study, the top listing in Google’s organic search results receives 33 percent of the traffic, compared to 18 percent for the second position. The traffic only degrades from there.

For a page to reach the top results, we’re talking about 6-12 months or longer. In fact, only 5.7% of the pages ranking in the top-ten results of Google’s first page were published within the year!
